THE POSITION

The Department of General Services, State Surplus Division is seeking a dedicated and reliable Equipment Operator B to join our team. In this position, you will operate warehouse machinery such as forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and box vans. Your contributions will support the efficient movement of supplies, equipment, and furniture across various buildings and facilities. Bring your strong work ethic and commercial drivers license (CDL) certification to our department and help ensure our operations run smoothly for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As an Equipment Operator B, you will be responsible for operating a variety of vehicles, including vehicles exceeding 32,001 pounds gross weight, to transport supplies, equipment, and furniture to and from state buildings and facilities across the Harrisburg area. You will load and unload heavy items, furniture, and files, and move objects up and down stairs when elevators are unavailable. This may require dismantling and reassembling furniture for ease of transport. In addition, you will ensure the warehouse is clean, organized, and stocked while following safety protocols to minimize risk during heavy lifting. Occasional overnight travel may be required to transport items to and from other locations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- You must possess a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
Condition of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with the air brake restriction (L) removed.
Additional Requirements:
- You must possess at least one year of warehouse experience.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualification:
- One year of experience inputting data into the Pennsylvania Automated Surplus System (PASS)
