Find Creative Candidates with These Seemingly Odd (Yet Revealing) Interview Questions

You could always just ask a candidate about their strengths and weaknesses, greatest achievements, 5-year plan, or favorite color if you're feeling a little adventurous. Or, you could take a page from the books of these major companies and really find out how creative your potential hire is:

"If you were a pizza delivery man, how would you benefit from scissors?" – Apple

Is the candidate able to come up with an answer outside of the (pizza) box?

"What do you think of garden gnomes?" – Trader Joe’s

Can the interviewee handle a complete curveball with grace (and a sense of humor)?

"Pick two celebrities to be your parents." – Urban Outfitters

Who are your potential hire's role models?

"A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?" – Clark Construction Group

Can the applicant improvise and tell a great story?

"Do you believe in Bigfoot?" – Norwegian Cruise Line

How significant is your candidate's sense of wonder vs. desire for concrete evidence?

"Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?" – Whole Foods Markets

How strong are your candidate's reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical skills?

"Describe the color yellow to somebody who's blind." – Spirit Airlines

A true test of the applicant's creativity and communication skills!
