General Manager Jobs
A General Manager in the manufacturing industry oversees the overall functionality of the manufacturing unit. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all operational activities within the manufacturing unit to ensure that production meets the company's objectives. Their duties include managing staff, overseeing product development, monitoring production quality, and liaising with other departments to implement the company's policies and goals. They also play a key role in budgeting, cost planning, inventory management, and resource allocation. Furthermore, they ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
Important skills for a General Manager in manufacturing include strong leadership, strategic planning, and excellent communication abilities. They should have a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, project management, and lean manufacturing principles. Familiarity with industry-specific software and proficiency in data analysis is also beneficial. Certifications such as a Certified Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) from APICS can be advantageous. Prior to becoming a General Manager, individuals might have roles such as Production Supervisor, Operations Manager, or Plant Manager.
