Tool Designer Jobs in South Carolina
A Tool Designer in the manufacturing industry is responsible for creating and developing specialized tools and equipment used in the production process. Their duties often involve designing, testing, and refining products, and they may also be involved in troubleshooting equipment issues or developing new methods for improving manufacturing processes. The role requires strong technical skills, including proficiency in CAD software and a firm understanding of production processes and principles.
Important skills for a tool designer include analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software is often necessary. A degree in engineering, industrial design, or a related field is usually required. Certifications such as Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT) or Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers can be beneficial. Prior to becoming a Tool Designer, an individual might work as a Draftsman, Machinist, or Mechanical Engineer.
You use your skills and experience, to operate equipment, including a surface grinder, manual mill, drill press, and spotting press....
Set up, program, and operate a variety of NC and Conventional machines such as engine and precision lathes, milling machines, drills, grinders, saws, jig borer, etc....
Proficiency with conventional shop equipment—such as lathes, mills, grinders, CNC machines, and drill presses—is essential. While AutoCAD experience is a plus, it's not required....
Accredited Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certificate is a plus. Must have own basic tool & die measuring instruments and hand tools....
